Currently we are able to use your graduation ceremony date as the starting date of eligibility on Work USA – this meant you would have 12 months from the date of your graduation ceremony to enter the US.

Recently there has been rumblings from that this will soon change. What we’ve heard is that the ‘new’ date you will be able to use for your eligibility is the date of your last exam – not your graduation ceremony date.

Why does this matter?
We want you to be aware of when you are eligible for this 12 month US visa. Our concern is that you are planning on using the grad ceremony date and that the guidelines change and you miss out. We don’t want that, you don’t want that.

Masters Students
Due to the ambiguous nature of a Master’s degree, the restrictions are slightly different when it comes to eligibility.  You are not allowed large gaps between finishing study and graduation, therefore, the eligibility date will most likely be taken from the date on which a student hands in (or the final date that they should hand in) their Master’s thesis.  There is some extension to this eligibility allowed, possibly to the date that the marks for the thesis is received, but this will need to be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

If you are concerned about your eligibility and when you need to enter the US please do not hesitate to contact us here or call 03 9329 3866. If we get any further information you will be contacted.

As of June 1st there has been some changes made to the Youth Mobility and Ancestry visa for the UK that you need to be aware of.

  • You are required to have an UK arrival date. In the past you did not need an intended arrival day and the visa and would just activate after 90 days of it being issued. That is no longer an option.
  • From the intended arrival date you have 30 days to enter the UK. If you do not enter in that 30 days you will need to re-apply for the visa (pay the fees again).
  • Upon arrival to the UK you will have 10 days to pick-up what is called a Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) from a nominated post shop in the UK.
  • The nominated post shop is chosen by the post code on the visa application (hostel, mates house ect). There are designated post shops in each area for you to pick up the BRP from. Not all post shops will do this.
  • The visa is still multiple entry, but you will need to carry the BRP card as that is the ‘work visa’.
  • If you lose the BRP card there is a replacement fee.

How does this affect the you?

Let’s say they want to travel for longer than then 30 days prior to arriving to the UK. The visa will expire and you will need to re-apply. So do not plan on travelling longer than 90 days prior to your visa starting or it could get very expensive!

All of our UK working holiday programs provide visa assistance and we ensure you get the visa on the first go!

Like always we are here to help!  If you have any questions just give us a call 03 9329 3866 or contact us here.

All employees are shuttled to work daily.

It is a great place to spend a winter season in Canada, but you don’t have to take our word for it let Kellie tell you all about it!

What was working at Marmot Basin like?

Living in Jasper is amazing! It’s exactly like what you would see in the movies. Working on the mountain is hard work but you do get a season pass and ski/board every day. I started with being a beginner and now I have my Level 1 instructors in snowboarding. Jasper is definitely a party town and there is always something on like street parties. The clubs hold things most weekends. It’s amazing.

I live in an apartment building called Cavell, this is very convenient as all your friends live there to and its cheap.

What job did you do at Marmot Basin? Did you enjoy it?

I love it! I started in the Rentals shop and then moved to becoming fulltime repair technician, which is working in a little tech shop out the back fixing skis and snow boards and waxing etc. I also taught a few lessons which was an awesome experience.

Would you recommend someone else to work at Marmot Basin? If so, why?

Absolutely. You will experience the amazing snow falls and the sunrise and sunsets on the mountains.

Where did you live and what was your accommodation like?

I live in an apartment building called Cavell in the town of Jasper. It is very convenient, as all your friends live there to and its cheap!

10 Reasons to do a working holiday

We believe a working holiday should be an opportunity that everyone has at some point in life! Whether it is a gap year after high school or uni or maybe career break later on in life; going on a working holiday is a must-do!

If you actually need a bit of convincing as to why you should pack it all in and move overseas? here’s 10 reasons!

  1. Stay longer -Working holidays allow you to stay much longer than a normal tourist visa! Recently Canada changed the duration of the working holiday visa up to 23 months…that sure beats a short tourist visa.
  2. Sustainable travel – you’re making money while you are abroad! We’ve had participants who found work at music festivals. They travelled the country touring with the festival, all while making money!
  3. Try something new – on a working holiday you can do a job you wouldn’t necessarily do at home. You never know, you may love pulling pints in a pub in London or working with kids at a summer camp in America!
  4. Meet the locals -when you live and work within the community you make friends with the locals, rather than just travelling through when you are on holiday.
  5. Cultural experience – you can’t really learn much on a short 2 week holiday, but living and working in a country for a period of time allows you to become a local.
  6. Exclusive visas for Kiwis – some working holiday visas are only offered to Kiwis and Aussies – lucky you! For example to get a 12 month US visa you must be a uni student or recent grad and hold a NZ or Aus passport.
  7. Boost your CV -Employers love seeing international work experience on your CV! You could impress future employers by working at 5 star, 5 diamond resort in America!
  8. Make a difference – Volunteering is a great way to have an amazing working holiday experience and give back to a community. teach English, work with children, protect wildlife, build schools? the options are endless!
  9. Leave sooner – you won’t need to save loads of cash to support yourself as you will be making money! We’ve got pre arranged ski resort jobs in Canada where you arrive to a job ? no wasting money while searching for work.
  10. No regrets – You’ve got one life… make it count! No one has ever said, ‘I really regretted that working holiday!’
